What is a Fairest of the Fair?
The Fairest of the Fair program
is a public relations position for young woman in the county.
Fairest of the Fair is NOT a beauty contest, but rather a
contest that focuses on the young woman’s poise, personality,
confidence, community involvement, speaking ability and the
ability to think on her feet. The contestants dress in business
professional attire, submit a resume-like application and go
through a business-like interview process. Once selected as
Fairest of the Fair, the young woman attends community
functions, does radio and television interviews and participates
in numerous area parades throughout the summer promoting the
Winnebago County Fair.
During the week of the Winnebago County Fair, she serves
as the official hostess of the fair, which includes giving
speeches, introducing entertainment and handing out ribbons to
the youth.
Interested
contestants must be 18 as of January 1st in the year
they wish to compete and have a valid drivers license. They must
also be residents of Winnebago County (if you go to school in a
different county, but you live in Winnebago County otherwise you
are eligible to run).
To become Fairest, fill out the application and send it,
along with a 5 x 7 picture of yourself, to the Winnebago
County Fairest coordinator by March 31 st. The
application is available on the Winnebago County Fair
website, the Winnebago County Extension Office or by
contacting the current Fairest of the Fair coordinator,
Jan Kossell, at
janfrog29@yahoo.com
or by calling her at (920) 410-3883

Winnebago County Fairest of the
Fair
The Winnebago County Fair brings us Betsy Lyness as the
2010 Fairest of the Fair! Betsy is the daughter of Cathy Jupp
and Dan Braasch. She currently lives in Neenah. After
graduating from Oshkosh West in 2006, she headed to Madison and
enrolled in the Farm and Industry Short course. She graduated
in 2008 with a degree in "Dairy Herd Management and Ag
Mechanics".
Betsy has been extremely busy promoting the Winnebago County
Fair by doing radio and television interviews, parades, mud
drags, dairy breakfasts, and other events where she can share
her "fair knowledge". If you attended any area parade this
summer, you saw Betsy riding on the float that she created! It
was even lit up for the night parade in Neenah!
